Over 100 beneficiaries have received a total of K82, 500 under the village banking programme, the Community Development, Mother and Child Health Ministry in Livingstone district has confirmed.
And Patriotic Front Livingstone Central member of Parliament Lawrence Evans has praised the women-folk for the role they play in a family.
Speaking when he handed over the money to individuals and women clubs in Livingstone on Wednesday, Mr Evans said that the village banking programme was meant to empower women with soft loans.
Mr Evans said the money was also meant to enhance wealth creation among women adding that what the Ministry of Community Development was doing must be commended. He said the money was also meant to reduce poverty levels in clubs and individuals.
Mr Evans urged the women to put the funds to good use so that it could benefit them and also pay back since what they were receiving loans.
The MP said the PF Government was a caring one which was committed to improving the lives of its citizen through the social economic programme being spearheaded by the Ministry of Community Development and also the Ministry of Gender.
Mr Evans noted that this was the second phase in Livingstone where women had benefited from village banking programme.
He said the first group received the loans in January adding that those who received in the second phase were from the west and south sub centres.
The Livingstone lawmaker said the programme had the capacity to transform the livelihood of beneficiaries and promote the spirit of saving.
And Mr Evans praised women for the role they played in a family.
He said women were hard-working people who should be supported at
all times because without them, there would not have been families.
“Women are putting a lot effort in looking after families. We need to
support them and this is why this PF Government is giving out money to
100 women through the social welfare,” he said.
