Zambia ready for Ivory Coast

UNDER-23 national team coach Fighton Simukonda has named two foreign-based players on his 18- member final squad for the Senegal 2015 African Championships final round first leg qualifier against Ivory Coast this weekend.

Simukonda said his lads were ready for Ivory Coast and targeting nothing but a win.

He named the duo as Egyptian based striker Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba and South-African midfielder Mukuka Mulenga.

He said Kampamba and Mulenga were expected to arrive last evening ahead of the team’s departure this afternoon.

“The two players are expected to join the team this evening (last evening).  They are both in form and I expect them to put up a good performance, “he said.

Kampamba contributed a goal to Zambia’s 2-0 victory over Botswana in the second round final leg played in May at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

He said a win in the first leg will give Zambia an advantage in the return match that will be played at Nkoloma Stadium after a fortnight.

He said he has since advised the players to be cautious of Ivory Coast and not just focus on attacking.

“Precedence is there about West Africans giving Zambia a problem. But from the training these boys have received, I have confidence Ivory Coast will not be difficult to handle.

“ The morale among the boys is high and are mentally grilled to handle the pressure of playing away,” he said.

Simukonda advised the boys to aim at achieving something while still in their youth, hence they should utilise the opportunity by qualifying for the African Championships.

Strikers Patrick Ngoma and Patson Daka who had earlier been ruled out will join the team in Ivory Coast straight from France where they are attending trials at FC Lille.

The final squad has goalkeepers Toaster Nsabata (Zanaco) and Kenny Mumba (Red Arrows).

Defenders include Boyd Mkandawire (Napsa Stars), Kapota Kayawe (Nkana), Benedict Chepeshi (Red Arrows), Benson Sakala (Zesco) and Bernard Mapili (Zesco).

Midfielders consist of Shadreck Malambo (Red Arrows), Mukuka Mulenga (Mamelodi Sundowns), Jackson Chirwa (Green Buffaloes), Kelvin Mubanga (Power Dynamos), Salulani Phiri and Moses Phiri (Zanaco).

Strikers are Patson Daka (Nchanga Rangers), Ronald Kampamba (Wadi Degla Fc, Egypt) ,Friday Samu (Green Buffaloes), Patrick Ngoma and Bruce Musakanya (Red Arrows).
