THE Copperbelt Province has outshined other provinces at this year’s inter-schools football tournament after emerging champions in the girls U-13 and U-17 while the boys U-13 also got top spot.
Copperbelt U-13 team thumped their Lusaka counter-parts 1-0 to grab the trophy at Kasama stadium.
The game was headed for a barren draw but the Copperbelt girls mounted more pressure towards the end of the match and their persistence paid when the nervy Lusaka girls allowed an own goal to gift their opponents the trophy.
The celebratory mood in the Copperbelt camp was not yet completed as the U-17 girls also saw off Lusaka girls via a 2-0 score line to replicate their juniors’ feet.
The quest for trophies continued in the boys category were the Copperbelt U-13 Boys beat Northern province 2-1 in another mouth-watering encounter played at the same venue.
Two goals from Essau Musamba were all the team needed to bag their third trophy of the day.
Copperbelt were first to score through Musamba but Northern Province levelled the matters five minutes later through diminutive Innocent Nkhoma who outleaped the entire Copperbelt defence to nod in a brilliant goal for the Northerners to fancy their chances of grabbing the trophy. But it was the goal hero Musamba whose brilliant skill paid dividends for the Copperbelt when he scored the winner with only two minutes left to play.
