FORMER Deputy Commerce Minister Richard Taima says the Patriotic Front victory in the Malambo, Petauke Central, and Mulobezi by elections shows how much Zambians have accepted President Edgar Lungu’s leadership style.
Mr.Taima told the Daily Nation in an interview that President Lungu was an all embracing leader and that he meant well for the country.
He said President Lungu’s attributes were the reason why the Patriotic Front party was making inroads even in areas believed to be strongholds for the opposition.
“The victory in Malambo, Petauke Central and Mulobezi clearly shows how strong the party is becoming every day,” Mr. Taima said.
He said although the Mulobezi seat was tightly contested, the PF managed to carry the day which was an indication that the PF will have a landslide victory in 2016. Mr. Taima has since congratulated the newly elected members of Parliament.
And Mr. Taima has warned PF members not to be complacent and relax, but to work hard because modern politics had become competitive.
“We have to continue working hard and embrace those that are defecting from other political parties coming into our party. That is key,” he said.
Mr Taima said he was aware that the joining of many people from other political parties to PF was seen as a threat to those that were holding positions currently.
He said PF members holding positions of responsibility should stop preoccupying themselves with defending their positions but look at the bigger picture of the party and embrace those who were coming from other political parties if they wanted to stay in power.
