ZAMBIA soccer team skipper Rainford Kalaba says there will be no excuse for not winning at home when the Chipolopolo clash with Guinea Bissau in the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Speaking in an interview after a training session at Kitwe’s Arthur Davies Stadium, Kalaba stated that it was dangerous when playing a team for the first time but said that should not be an excuse
for losing.”We have never played Guinea Bissau before so it will be a tricky encounter. Even then we need to win this match especially that we’re playing at home. There will be no excuse for losing at home,“ he said.He said the team has been preparing well and were determined to win.
He said the performance of the team in the last friendly game against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa last weekend was good enough to lift the morale of the boys. Zambia beat Ethiopia 1-0.
“I feel the team has prepared adequately for the qualifier. We have had friendlies and now we have to deliver this Saturday. The team has put behind the poor re- sults from the past competitions and are focused to win,” he said.
Kalaba called on the players to support interim coach George Lwandamina.
“The new coach needs support from all the players. He is not a new face and should be welcomed with a win this Saturday,“ he said.
Meanwhile, Evans Kangwa and Stopphila Sunzu have knee inju- ries.
Team doctor Joseph Kabungo said the two players were injured during training and he was mak- ing an assessment before deciding if they will feature in Saturday’s game.
“Kangwa will have light train- ing this afternoon (yesterday) while Sunzu will see how he trains today. It’s too early for me to make any conclusion,“ he said.
