TAMIA Enterprises, which is constructing the Kijilamatambwe Primary school in Zamgameno area in Solwezi, should desist from shoddy works as it will be blacklisted, acting Solwezi district commissioner Chipawa Chipawa has said.
Mr Chipawa sounded the warning when he inspected construction works at the primary school.
“I am very much disappointed with the works. The works are completely shoddy. Contractors should be using right materials when executing Government contracts,” said Mr Chipawa. Mr Chipawa said contractors should be responsible enough because the structures belonged to the community and Government will not hesitate to blacklist those engaged in shoddy works.
He said Government was spending huge sums of money to come up with such projects.
Mr. Chipawa said Government was committed to bringing development closer to the people. “Let me also take this opportunity to urge Government departments mandated to monitor projects to take keen interest in monitoring these projects,’’ he said. Tamia Enterprises were engaged by Government to construct a 1 by 2 classroom block at the school at a cost of K160, 000.
And group leader Getson Nkundwe called on members of the community to contribute funds towards the construction of another 1 by 3 classroom block and teachers’ houses. Mr Nkundwe explained that the community was increasing hence the need to expand the school.
And head teacher John Katambo disclosed that the school had a total enrollment of 160 pupils from the time it was opened last year.
“The community is responding well in terms of community participation. The school has the potential to grow,” said Mr Katambo.
He appealed to Government and other stakeholders to help the school sink a borehole to alleviate water challenges.
