UPND are criminals who should not be allowed to be in power, Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Davis Chama has charged.
And police in Sesheke have apprehended four people who include Sesheke Central Member of Parliament Siyanga Siyauya in connection with the attack on Mr. Chama and his entourage which happened on Saturday in Mulobezi.
Mr. Chama said UPND thugs ambushed him and the entire entourage with the intention of killing him and other PF members who were going to Mulobezi to drum up support for the PF candidate Patricia Mulasikwanda.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr. Chama said it was unfortunate that UPND were practising colonial and mafia types of politics.
“They wanted to kill me and others. UPND are thugs. They should not be allowed to be near power. These are criminals,” said Mr. Chama.
He said the PF entourage survived the ambush, adding that UPND should take responsibility for what happened on Saturday.
“These are just politics and it is unfortunate that our colleagues are behaving in a manner which threatens peace in this country. But I have to warn them that we shall not allow lawlessness at any cost,” said Mr. Chama.
And Police spokesperson Charity Munganga Chanda said the people arrested were Sesheke Central member of Parliament Siyanga Siyauya, Gerald Imanda, Likamba Godfrey while the fourth one Mushaukwa Mushaukwa was nursing his wound in Sesheke District Hospital under police guard.
Mrs. Chanda said a pistol with seven rounds of ammunition and other offensive weapons were recovered from a Toyota Hilux Reg. NO. ALD 9469 belonging to Mr. Siyauya.
“The Hilux was one of the vehicles that were used to block the road when the attack happened. The vehicle has since been impounded and investigations into the matter continue,” she said.
