Muteteka thanks President Lungu

CHISAMBA Member of Parliament Moses Muteteka has thanked President Edgar Lungu for releasing him from prison on the grounds of poor health.

Mr Muteteka said he suffered a stroke twice in 2012 and 2013, but that he was ready to resume parliament duties when the House starts sitting next week.

President Lungu pardoned Mr Muteteka after he made an appeal to him on grounds of ill health.

Mr Muteteka said now that was a free man he would get back to the House, considering that his people in Chisamba were being represented in parliament.

President Lungu through a special presidential amnesty has since written to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Zambia Prisons Service informing them of the decision.

Mr Muteteka was serving a five-year jail term for theft of motor vehicle, but has been released on account of his poor health.

President Lungu ordered that Mr Muteteka be released from custody immediately on condition that during the period he should have been in jail, he does not commit an offence similar to the one for which he was convicted and sentenced.

Mr Muteteka was jailed for theft of Mitsubishi Fuso light truck valued at K75, 000, belonging to Chibombo District Council in Chisamba Constituency.
