Husband turns matrimonial home into a brothel

A 28-year-old woman told a Local court in Lusaka that her husband uses their matrimonial home as a brothel as he invites his friends with their girldfreins to come make love at the premises.

This is in a case in which Geraldine Namfukwe of Kamwala South sued her husband Martin Lemba, 29, of the same  area for divorce.

The two got married in 2013 and have one child. Dowry was paid.

Namfukwe told Senior Court Magistrate Sarah Nyendwa sitting at Chawama Local Court that when they married they were staying with Lemba’s friend but her husband used the matrimonial home  into a brothel which his friends patronised with their mini-skirted girlfriends.

She t0ld the court that often times she used to find used condoms  in the kitchen bin

She explained that after her husband’s friend died, they shifted to another place but a woman  later phoned Lemba asking for money to buy  baby napkins.

Namfukwe further stated  that Lemba would text the woman to tell her that she (Namfukwe) was his sister.

“When I called the woman to tell her that I am Lemba’s wife, she told me that her child is not breast feeding and that she is HIV positive.

Later I found a handbag and inside was a letter from another woman confessing that she was involved in drugs after she learnt that she was HIV positive.

Lemba was spending nights out as he would disappear on Fridays and return on Sundays.

“We have been on separation from December 18, 2014 he doesn’t call or visit me,” said Namfukwe.

Namfukwe said that they went for HIV test and she was found positive while Lemba was found to be negative.

In defence Lemba said that problems emanated from the woman who had his child because they were always quarreling with Namfukwe.

Lemba said that though Namfukwe was found HIV positive and he was found negative he did not trouble her because he even advised her to set an alarm for taking the medicines.

“I wanted to be careful but she did not want me to use condoms and this made me not to arrive home early. She  then decided to leave the matrimonial home and stop work aftershe built a house.

In submission, Namfukwe changed her mind and said that she did not want to divorce Lemba so that he keeps the child who is not breast feeding. but Lemba said that Namfukwe left on her own.

Passing judgment, Magistrate Nyendwa said that there was problem in marriage because before two years Lemba started spending nights out.

She said that even if Namfukwe wants to stay with Lemba he will always runs away from her for fear that she will infect him.

She granted the couple divorce ordering Lemba to compensate Namfukwe with K3000 with initial payment of K1,000 followed by monthly installments of K300 and to be paying child maintenance fee of K300 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
