Hard beer drinking wife divorced
A man told a Local Court in Lusaka that he chased his wife because she was drinking beer excessively and that sometimes she spent nights out.
Mukonda Zimba, 35, of Makeni Villa was testifying in a case in which his wife, Linda Tembo, 33, of John Laing compound sued him for divorce.
The two got married in 2012 and have no children. Dowry was paid.
Tembo told Senior Court Magistrate Sarah Nyendwa sitting at Chawama Local court that Zimba found her with two children from her previous marriage while he also has one child from his first marriage.
She explained that problems started last year after Zimba started coming home lateadding that each time they differed Tembo would take his children to his sister. “Zimba was refusing to pay school fees for my children insisting that their father should pay for them. He was telling his sister that he has been chasing me but I don’t want to go.,
“He was giving money for upkeep to his female cousin who we were staying with and Zimba could chart with his cousin on a sofa until 01.00 hours and he always found me fast asleep. In April we differed with Zimba’s cousin, and he chased me,” said Tembo.
In defence, Zimba said that he chased Tembo because she took to the bottle like a man that sometimes she nights out.
“She once fought with my sister because she came home late and drunk and wanted to cook food for me after my sister had already prepared the brazier to cook for me. The problem is that she drinks too much beer,” said Zimba.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Nyendwa said that it was evident that Tembo was drinking too much and spending nights out and did not challenge Zimba on that adding that she contributed to the problems.
She granted the couple divorce ordering Zimba to compensate Tembo with K2000 by monthly installments of K300. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
