FOUR people have died on the spot in a road traffic accident involving a Lusaka bound Power Tools bus while 26 others are admitted to Kabwe General Hospital.
And two people died on the spot yesterday while one is battling for her life in Nakonde District Hospital with multiple body injuries after a motor bike they were riding on collided head-on with a Toyota Collora. In Kabwe, the accident happened near Chindwin Barracks on Tuesday evening.
Head of Clinical Care at Kabwe General Hospital Victor Kusweje confirmed that one male and three females died on the spot while 26 others were admitted to the hospital. Dr Kusweje told Central Province Minister Davis Chisopa that the 26 admitted to the hospital were all in a stable condition.
And some of the accident victims admitted to hospital explained that the accident happened when the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a cyclist and in the process collided with a truck and overturned.
Meanwhile, Central Province Minister Davis Chisopa who rushed to the accident scene with Kabwe District Commissioner Patrick Chishala described the accident as unfortunate. Mr. Chisopa said it was sad that yet again lives had been lost in an accident caused by a cyclist. He was hopeful that the medical personnel attending to accident victims would do their best to save the lives of the 26 surviving victims. And in the Muchinga accident, Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed the mishap in Chinsali yesterday.
Mr. Daka said two people who included the rider of the motor bike and one of his two passengers died on the spot while the other escaped with serious injuries after the motor bike collided with an on-coming Toyota Collora. He said the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Collora tried to avoid a pothole in the middle of the road and collided with a rider on the right side of the road. Mr. Daka said the accident happened around 12:00 hours yesterday at Wembley dry port about five kilometres from Nakonde on the Great North Road.
The driver of the Collora who was not identified escaped unhurt and was on the run.
The deceased have been identified as Lucky Simbaya of Isandula village in Chief Waitwika chiefdom and Emmanuel Sikapizye of the same abode. – ZANIS
