IF suspended Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito and Post Newspaper owner Fred M’membe criminally obtained the K14 million from Development Bank of Zambia, I will make sure they pay back, Zambian Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali has said.
And Mr Tayali has accused former president Rupiah Banda of being corrupt and alleged that the former head of State and Daily Nation proprietor Richard Sakala had sponsored and influenced the establishment of the Annel Silungwe led tribunal currently investigating Mr Nchito who has been arraigned with a range of allegations.
Mr Tayali has also branded Government ministers and the entire team of President Edgar Lungu’s aides at State House as people who were corrupt who could not account for the wealth they were accumulating.
Featuring on Comet radio on the Podium programme, Mr Tayali claimed President Lungu was influenced by former president Banda and Mr Sakala to constitute a tribunal against the DPP because the duo had a personal vendetta against Mr Nchito and Mr M’membe.
He said his position over the K14 million DBZ loan obtained by Mr Nchito, his brother Nchima, Mr M’membe through the defunct Zambian Airways had not changed and that if the trio had committed a criminal offence by obtaining the loan by fraudulent misrepresentation, they would have to pay for their crime.
He claimed that he had an opportunity to look at the documents on how Mr Nchito and Mr M’membe had obtained the K14 million DBZ loan and had come to the conclusion that there was no criminality in the transaction.
“We were told that Mr Nchito and Mr M’membe obtained the K14 million DBZ criminally and that is why we strongly objected to the appointment of Mr Nchito as the DPP. If Mr Nchito and Mr M’membe committed a crime in the manner they obtained the DBZ, I will make sure they pay for their crimes. So our position about the DBZ loan has not changed. I have had the opportunity to look at documents of the DBZ loan and there is no criminal act by Mr Nchito and Mr M’membe. Mr Banda and Mr Sakala are driving the propaganda against Mr Nchito and Mr M’membe,” Mr Tayali said.
He alleged that former president Banda and Mr Sakala hated Mr Nchito because he had prosecuted them, adding that Mr Nchito was not going to receive a fair hearing in the Annel Silungwe-led tribunal because, according to him, the members of the tribunal were biased. Mr Tayali alleged that it was former president Banda while in office who accused Mr Nchito and Mr M’membe of having criminally obtained the K14 million DBZ loan.
