THE National Registration office has been urged to fully publicize the mobile issuance of National Registration Cards (NRC) currently going on.
Forum for Development and Democracy (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has accused the National Registration office of not being serious with the NRC mobile exercise.
Ms Nawakwi alleged that officers issuing NRC were not publicizing their whereabouts when they arrived in certain areas, adding that an exercise of such a magnitude required full publicity.
“The National Registration office is treating this exercise as if it was a picnic. First, there is no announcement from anywhere or anyone in the villages where this exercise is being under taken,” Ms Nawakwi said.
Speaking when she visited Kembe Constituency, Ms Nawakwi observed that officers were arriving in the morning and by afternoon they had packed up their bags and left to their next station.
“In fact, in the same Kembe Constituency at Nachiyaba polling station in Chikobo ward, they just worked for four hours and then they took off.
They did not even informed the headmen nor informed the chiefs or even made any attempts to do publicity through Zambia News and Information Service,” Ms Nawakwi said. She said the exercise of such a magnitude was supposed to be fully publicized and to inform the chiefs and their headmen.
Ms Nawakwi said if the government had no money to engage ZANIS it was imperative that every chief was requested to instruct village headmen and women under their jurisdiction to treat the exercise as matter of life and death.
