A Local Court in Lusaka has ordered a 20-year-old man to pay K4,000 as compensation for impregnating a 15-year-old girl.
Senior Presiding Magistrate Martha Tembo sitting with Magistrate Harriet Mbewe at Matero Local Court ordered Samson Changwe of Ngwerere to compensate Harriet Nkoloma, 30, of Mikango for impregnating her daughter.
Nkoloma told the court that she found Changwe sleeping with her daughter in a kitchen and that when they sat to resolve the issue his father claimed his son was too young to be involved in sex.
She explained that in December last year her daughter was discovered to be pregnant but Changwe denied responsibility.
Later however Changwe admitted impregnating the girl and started staying with her.
But the other day the pregnant girl insulted the girlfriend of the manager at the farm and in the process the boy was fired.
He explained that he then sent the girl to her mother and wondered why she had sued him.
Asked by Nkoloma how long he stayed with her daughter, Changwe said that he livedwith her for three months.
In submission, Nkoloma said that she wanted Changwe to compensate her because the pregnancy is growing and he is not doing anything about it. Changwe promised to compensate her.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Tembo said that both Changwe and Nkoloma’s daughter were too young and that their parents were supposed stop them when they found them making love in the kitchen.
She explained that Nkoloma’s child was also a problem because she continued making love with Changwe even after she was found misbehaving in the kitchen.
She said that if the matter was reported to police and the under-five clinic confirms she was 15, it was going to be a defilement case.
Changwe was ordered to pay K4,000 in monthly installments of K200
