Apuleni lying, says UPND

THE UPND in Southern Province has accused former Choma District Commission in the MMD government Laiven Apuleni of lying and deceiving the nation that he has been expelled from the party.

Livingstone UPND district spokesperson Neto Halwabala has described as economical, Mr. Apuleni’s assertion that he was expelled from the party by the district executive for going to the airport to receive President Edgar Lungu last month when he was in Livingstone.

Mr Halwabala told the Daily Nation in Livingstone that Mr. Apuleni was neither charged nor summoned to appear before any committee to explain his conduct.

He said it was unfortunate Mr. Apuleni jumped the gun and chose to tell lies to the nation through the media that the opposition UPND had expelled him.

According to Mr Halwabala’s explanation, the only party organ which had powers to expel an official was the national management committee.

“Mr. Apuleni has not been charged, he just jumped and rejoined the PF. He is being economical with the truth. The only organ that can expel a member from the party is the national management, the lower organs have no right to do that apart from a suspension, ” said Halwabala.

“To hear Apuleni confirm to the media that we have expelled him is malicious and he is being unfair to his political career. In UPND we believe in democracy and so we did not charge him when he defected to the PF where he came from and could not appear before the district executive which summoned him. Our advice to Mr. Apuleni is that he should not deceive the nation by exposing his level of maturity through telling lies,” he said.

The UPND has since challenged Mr. Apuleni to produce the letter which he has been purporting was given to him be the party confirming his expulsion from the opposition political party.

Mr. Apuleni joined the UPND on April 8, 2014 from the PF after joining the ruling party in October 2011 soon after the party formed Government.
