THE Grand Coalition on the constitution making process says it will not participate in the countrywide mass protests organised by the opposition UPND next week to pressure Government to enact the new constitution through a referendum.
In an interview, the coalition chairperson Father Leonard Chiti clarified that his organisation will not be part of the protest organised by UPND because they were not invited.
Fr. Chiti said the Grand Coalition could only attend the protest if they were invited, adding that the Coalition was not aware of the content of the protest.
UPND through its deputy general secretary Kachunga Simusamba said the party was organising country wide protests to push Government to enact the constitution through a referendum and not to go for piece meal amendments.
Fr. Chiti said the Grand Coalition was against a patchwork approach to the constitution because that was against the expectations of the people of Zambia.
And Fr. Chiti warned the PF to stick to their word during the campaigns of giving the people of Zambia a new constitution without fail. Like we have said before, we believe the only stumbling block to a people driven constitution is lack of political will and a disrespect of the people of Zambia by the government.
