Nakonde receives 210 tonnes of fertilizer

ABOUT 210 metric tonnes of Compound D -fertilizer in the phase two of the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) have been received by Nakonde district for distribution to farmers.

The FISP distribution exercise was flagged off by Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda two weeks ago.

Speaking when he received the second consignment yesterday, Nakonde District Cooperatives Union chairperson, George Silwenga said he was happy that Government had continued to send fertilizer to the district. Mr Silwenga said last week Nakonde received 170 metric tonnes of fertilizers much to the delight of the local farmers. He has since called on farmers in the district to start preparing themselves as the cooperative will start issuing the fertilizers in June in readiness for the 2015/2016 farming season.

Yesterday, six trucks loaded with Compound D-fertilizers arrived in Nakonde to deliver a second consignment of the fertilizers under FISP.

About 27,000 farmers across the district will benefit from the Farmer Input Support Programme in the 2015/2016 farming season. – ZANIS
