THE Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) yesterday unveiled its K500 000 budget for the forthcoming Zambia International Rally which is a qualifier for the African Rally Championship (ARC).
And Automotive Equipment Limited donated K150, 000 as sponsorship towards the international event which will run from 15 to 17 of next month.
Speaking at the launch of the 2015 ARC and Zambia International Rally at Lusaka’s Intercontinental Hotel, Automotive Equipment general manager Deepak Patel said his company has contributed K90, 000 in monetary form and K60 000 for incidentals such as food, awards and other expenditures during the rally.
Patel said Automotive Equipment would continue supporting ZMSA to encourage and promote development of young drivers and navigators.
“There seems to be a perception that this sport is for the elite and we through ZMSA remain committed to broaden the horizons of young talent,
“Developing young talent calls for resources hence the more reason why we are adamant at sponsoring this event,” he said.
He revealed that Automotive Equipment was also sponsoring Jassy and Muna Singh at this years’ ARC in the hope of bringing back the title to Zambia from Kenya.
Patel said his company was also sponsoring the FAZ futsal league which had proven to be popular among young football players.
And ZMSA vice president Sam Ching’ambu said he was thrilled by the sponsorship the association had received in preparation for the international rally.
“I am grateful for this colossal sponsorship package. It takes a big heart to give away such an amount of money hence we are humbled”, he said.
Ching’ambu said he was happy with the growing numbers of participants in the sport which had doubled since 2013.
He appealed to the corporate world to identify and sponsor young drivers to help them grow in the sport.
ZMSA technical director Muna Singh senior said there were 29 entries for the Zambia International rally.
He said Mohammed Essa had entered the rally and only one international driver Jassi Chate from Kenya will take part.
