Ex Kabwe mayor put on defence for assault

FORMER Kabwe mayor Moses Mwansa has been found with a case to answer by the Kabwe Magistrates Court and put on defence in a case where he is charged with assault.

Magistrate Sebastian Mwenya told Mwansa that the prosecution had adduced sufficient evidence to prove the allegation against him and that it was up to him to defend himself.

Mr. Mwansa said that he would avail two witnesses to testify in his favour. The matter has been adjourned to 5th May for commencement of defence. Facts before court are that on 7th February, Mwansa is alleged to have assaulted Fidellis Mubila, a council policeman while carrying out an operation to close bars that were operating beyond designated hours.

Mr. Mubila in the company of other council and State police officers attempted to close down Mr. Mwansa’s bar named 3rd May at which he got agitated and assaulted him.  The prosecution called seven witnesses who all testified that Mr. Mwansa was very violent on the material date.
