A 48-YEAR-OLD man has told a Local Court in Lusaka that he has not made love to his wife for four months because she chases him from bed.
Shadreck Siwale of Kanyama compound was testifying in a case in which his wife, Febby Nakau, 44, of Garden House compound sued him for divorce.
The two got married in 1987 and have eight children.
However, Siwale said that he still loves his wife.
Nakau told Senior Court Ng’andu Mukuka sitting with Magistrates Daniel Phiri and Ackim Phiri at Kanyama Local Court that they were married in the village.
She explained that Siwale was a security guard but when she started business he decided to stop work for fear that he could be killed by robbers.
Nakau said when she insisted that he should not stop work, he told her to go to her parents.
“Siwale could do nothing but just lie on a sofa. Later he started business but in January 2015 after he collected money he went to marry another woman in Chamuka.
“When he returned from business I asked him if he had married another woman buttold me that he has no appetite for me and went back,” said Nakau.
Asked by the court if they make love, Nakau said that they have not been making love for four months.
Nakau said that when she went to town to do her business she bumped into Siwale who told her that she would find him at home. She did not find him at home.
She explained that when she phoned Siwale’s uncle, he told her that (Siwale) was with his new wife.
In defence, Siwale said that he refused to come to Lusaka because he was doing fine in the village.
He explained that when he started work as a guard in 2010 he was getting very little money and he stopped in 2013 because thieves wanted to kill him.
He admitted denying his wife conjugal rights for four months because she chased him from bed.
Siwale said that he planted maize at the farm but Nakau refuses to go there to harvest it, adding that he did not want to divorce Nakau because he has nowhere to take his children.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Mukuka said that Siwale was not supportive to his family because he was not working.
He granted the couple divorce ordering Siwale to maintain Nakau with K100 per month for six months and to be paying child maintenance fee of K600 per month.
