CIVIL servants in Eastern Province should not erect sub-standard structures, says permanent secretary Chanda Kasolo.
Speaking during the citizen budget dissemination forum in Petauke , Mr Kasolo said Government is spending huge sums of money on infrastructure at the expense of tax payers money.
He said this is why civil servants should not be quick to certify sub-standard structures and allow the contractor to be paid thinking they can get away with it.
Mr Kasolo warned civil servants that he was ready to send any one to jail who will accept sub-standard structures.
He further appealed for quality and world class structures in the province.
He said civil servants should serve the people to the best of their abilities and not to steal from the poor.
And Petauke district buildings officer Antony Manda thanked the permanent secretary for his concern over the quality of infrastructure in the province.
He said his office will adhere to quality workmanship by contractors.-ZANIS
