Zambians trust us-Lungu

PRESIDENT Lungu says the ruling party has the confidence of Zambians through the victories in the just ended by-elections which is proof of the Patriotic Front’s growth and strength after the loss of their leader President Michael Sata.

He hailed the violent-free by-elections which he said had elevated the bar on the level of democracy in Zambia.

The President said this in a statement issued yesterday by special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda on the just ended by-elections.

President Lungu said he was impressed with the PF victory in the three parliamentary by-elections and the 10 local government won by the ruling party on Tuesday.

“To those that doubted PF’s capacity to emerge stronger and united after mourning the painful loss of our great leader the late Michael Sata, the answer is right before you.

“Three straight victories in the just-ended parliamentary by-elections must speak volumes about our strength, resolve and most importantly, the people’s confidence in PF,” President Lungu said.

The President said the peaceful co-existence exhibited in the three parliamentary by-elections and several local Government elections held on Tuesday had shamed perpetrators of violence as there was no opportunity for their evil deeds.

Mr Lungu said the outcome of the polls only confirmed the unity and oneness of the Zambian people seemingly threatened by those investing in violence and sectionalism.

“Zambian can be proud of themselves for going about their political differences peacefully. This campaign will always remind us that co-existence in diversity is possible.

“With humility of heart, I would like to congratulate those who participated in the just ended by-elections for running a good race. I also salute the people of Zambia, the voter, for ensuring that the campaigns were peaceful,” he said.

President Lungu said the outcome of the polls shamed politicians involved in the practice of organising violence and sectionism, against the promotion of free and fair elections.

The Head of State has also commended both the PF and the opposition UPND for their formidable fight in trying to win the elections as opposed to other political parties that have taken to hate speeches in the media.

And President Lungu has pledged development for every corner of the country, as he would ensure all programmes were on course, and has guaranteed food security for the Zambian people.
