Zimba police arrests woman 31, for alleged infanticide

Police in Zimba have arrested a 31-year-old woman for causing death of her six-month-old baby.

Zimba Police Officer in Charge Elijah Katobansenga identified the woman as Agnes Chinenge 31, of Mawaya compound.

It is alleged that Chinenge had gone drinking on Monday night with her baby on the back and when she went to sleep around 03:00 hours she slept on the baby hence causing its death.

Chinenge only discovered around 08:00 hours that her baby had passed on.

The woman has since been detained at Zimba police post pending investigations with a holding charge of infanticide.

Meanwhile, a concerned Mawaya resident Mariam Banda has appealed to the police to be conducting patrols in the compound and charge women who patronise bars with babies.

Ms Banda said it has become a trend in the compound for women to go with babies in bars.

She added that such women should face the law and be punished.
