THE appointment of Inonge Wina as Republican Vice President should not be politicized as she was appointed on merit, says Barotse Freedom Movement national secretary Chazele Mulasikwanda.
He said politicians should not link Ms Wina’s appointment to tribe to gain political mileage.
Mr Mulasikwanda said it was sad that some politicians wanted to use tribe to gain sympathy, when the people of Western Province do not support tribalism.
“It is not fair that each time these politicians want some sympathy they have to mislead innocent people. As far as I am concerned, the Zambians vote for candidates of their choice and it doesn’t matter where they come from,” he said.
Mr Mulasikwanda was reacting to media reports suggesting that Lozis should vote for the Patriotic Front which has given them a Lozi Vice president.
He explained that the appointment of Ms Wina as Vice President had nothing to do with her being Lozi, but that anyone capable of handling such a position was entitled, regardless of tribe.
Mr Mulasikwanda said it was because of such statements that there were hatred and division in the country.
He said President Lungu had a right to choose people to work with and that his choice should not be based on tribe.
Mr Mulasikwanda said it would be prudent for politicians to concentrate on their programmes to avoid unnecessary tribal remarks.
“We are appealing to politicians to stop issuing statements that can alarm the public. Western Province has a lot of problems that needed to be resolved to restore peace and unity in the country,” he said.
