SOME political parties have become an appendage of the cartel and the demand by Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) leader Charles Milupi for the impeachment of President Edgar Lungu is delusional thinking that has characterised the opposition, the Patriotic Front (PF) has charged.
PF media vice chairperson Sunday Chanda said yesterday some opposition political parties have bought into the idea of the cartel and are twisting facts to suit the agenda of bitter people who have lost control of the Presidency.
He said it was shocking that some opposition leaders have started singing praises for people they had earlier opposed on principle in the hope of winning some political media coverage.
“Mr Milupi has no political party now. He has become an extension of the UPND. It is strange that while the International Monetary Fund is praising President Lungu on his directive to correct the mining sector tax regime, Mr Milupi is calling for his impeachment. This is sour grapes to imagine they do not want anything good for the Zambian people,” he said.
“Just look at the UPND. In 2012, they demonstrated against the appointment of Mutembo Nchito to be ratified as Director of Public Prosecutions and their cadres were beaten by police. But today, they are singing praises for Nchito and are accusing the PF of being against the suspended DPP. They have forgotten their actions of three years ago,” he said.
Mr Chanda said he suspected the nolle prosequi that Mutembo Nchito entered in favour of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema in the matter in which he was charged with publication of false news could be the motivating factor for the opposition party’s support for the actions of the cartel.
He said the ruling party was even more shocked that Forum for Democracy and Development Edith Nawakwi was opposed to President Lungu’s trip to China when the whole world was looking to the Asian country for investment.
“America is looking to China for its investment. UK is also looking to China for investment opportunities. If we cannot do business with China where everybody is going, then I doubt Madam Nawakwi’s credentials for her to fail to appreciate that only two Presidents from Africa were invited to address a high level forum for promoting investment,” Mr Chanda said.
He said President Lungu believed in action and that Zambians knew that he was being accused wrongly as he has only been Head of State for less than 70 days.
Mr Chanda said it was clear that some opposition leaders have fallen for the agenda of the cartel and will do anything to win some political mileage on twisted facts.
