A security guard in Lusaka says his wife commits adultery with his young brother when he is in night shift.
Field Kabaso ,32, of John Laing compound was testifying in a case in which his wife, Mervis Kapotwe,21, sued him for divorce.
However, Kabaso said that he still loves his wife. The two got married in 2012 and have one child.
Kapotwe told Senior Court Magistrate Mubukwanu Matakala sitting with Magistrate Sarah Nyendwa at Chawama Local Court that the young brother of Kabaso was attempting to make love with her.
She explained that when he reported him to Kabaso , he was made to apologize to her husband.
She was howeever surprised that Kabaso started calling her a prostitute.
“Kabaso used to give me K5 for ration and when I don’t have charcoal he would leave K7. If I complain he says that he will marry a woman who is working so that they help each other or a woman who knows how to make a budget,” she said
She said Kabaso has paid dowry for another woman he wants to marry because he says he wanted a fat woman.
In defence, Kabaso said that the problem started in April 2014 when his young brother came to live with them because Kapotwe started making love with him.
Kabaso added that his young brother told him that it was Kapotwe who was enticing him to make love with her because she would walk naked to close the door.
“In February 2014 Kapotwe started work at a take away without my consent. At one time when she did not go for work a man phoned her to ask where she was, It was the second time I forgave Kapotwe,” he said
Asked if it was not his young brother who was attempting to sleep with her, Kabaso said that it was Kapotwe who enticed him by going to lock the house naked.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Matakala said that that there was no trust in the marriage and that that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.
He granted the couple divorce ordering Kabaso to compensate Kapotwe K5,000 by monthly installments of K250 and to be paying child maintenance fee of K200 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
