THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is reportedly sponsoring the proposal by Nchanga Rangers football club to have Kalusha Bwalya stand unopposed as FAZ president at Saturday’s annual general meeting, effectively making him life president of zambia’s mother soccer body.
An impeccable source familiar with the happenings at Football House alleged that Rangers were being used as a tool to advocate for Kalusha to be made life president of FAZ.
“FAZ may have a hand in the Nchanga Rangers proposal that suggests that only candidates that have served in the FAZ executive can stand in the 2016 elections,” said the source.
The source reported that the proposal is not Rangers own making but that of FAZ which was sponsoring the campaign for its benefit.
FAZ annual general meeting has been set for Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe this Saturday to elect new office bearers.
Nchanga Rangers and Afri-Sport have proposed that only a person who has severed in the FAZ executive should be eligible to contest the FAZ presidency.
Meanwhile Mpande Youth Academy director Lisbon Mpande said the Nchanga Rangers’ proposal was not genuine and should not be tolerated.
Mpande said football in Zambia was limping and needed fresh leaders with vision, wisdom and passion for the game and that barring candidates was not the best way to improve the game. He said Rangers “had the guts” to put up such a proposal because their team was sponsored by companies.
“Nchanga Rangers should bring up proposals that will revamp football in Zambia because currently football is limping,” said Mpande.
He said football academies contributed a great deal to the development of soccer in Zambia but FAZ had allegedly ignored their importance. Mpande said the other Ranger’s suggestion for a presidential candidate to pay K25, 000 to be eligible to stand was unrealistic.
“Just because FAZ gets money from FIFA they think everyone has that kind of money. No, that is not being realistic. We have good administrators in academies that can run affairs at FAZ but will not have that money to pay,” he said.
He appealed to FAZ not to tolerate that proposal when they go to the AGM in Kabwe on Saturday.
