Axe falls on 3 Bemba chiefs

THE Bemba Traditional Council, known as Ilamfya has with immediate effect dismissed Albert Mumbi as Chief Muporokoso of the Bemba-speaking people of Mporokoso district in Northern Province.

Bashilubemba confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in an interview but could not give further details over what could have led to the removal of Mr. Mumbi as Chief Muporokoso.

However, advisor of Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, Ambassador Kasonde Kasutu who announced the development, said Chief Muporokoso was expelled because he was allegedly undermining Mwinelubemba Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.

Ambassador Kasutu said the expelled Chief Muporokoso had continued opposing the leadership of Henry Kanyanta Sosala as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu despite Government recognizing him.

He said the expelled chief together with Chief Chewe and Chief Chimbuka were promoting division in the region.

“Chief Mporokoso has been expelled because of undermining the authority of his Royal Highness Paramount Chief Chiti mukulu and promoting division in the Bemba-land,” he said.

Ambassador Kasutu also said Chileshe Mumba Yulaya and Greenson Mwila who were holding title of Chief Chewe and Chumbuka should stop masquerading as Chief Chewe and Chief Chimbuka respectively.

The Bemba traditional council has since appealed to Government to remove the names of the embattled trio from the book containing the names of chiefs in Zambia. The Bemba Traditional Council Ilamfya made the resolutions during its meeting on Monday last week in Mungwi.
