A woman told a Local Court in Lusaka that her husband has no time for her but spends most of his time on phone on whatsapp and facebook.
Sandra Mwanza, 22, of Chawama compound was testifying in a case in which her husband, Steven Chimfwembe, 30, of the same compound sued her for divorce.
However, Mwanza said she still loved her husband.
The two got married in 2011 and have two children.
Chimfwembe told Senior Court Magistrate Sarah Nyendwa sitting at Chawama Local Court that all was well in their marriage until 2014 when Mwanza started keeping the house dirty and also started misusing house rentals.
He explained that Mwanza also stopped respecting him and at time she could challenge to fight.
Chimfwembe said he left the matrimonial home on December 24, 2014 but Mwanza followed him and tore his clothes.
He said he felt disrespected and not a husband in his matrimonial house because Mwanza could decide to go anywhere without telling him.
In cross-examination, Chimfwembe said at first Mwanza used to ask for permission to visit friends and relatives.
In defence, Mwanza said Chimfwembe would come home without saying a word to her but instead spent time on phone on whatsapp and face book.
She explained that when she was checking Chimfwembe’s phone she would normally find love messages from women and that when she inquired about them, Chimfwembe would beat her.
Mwanza added that Chimfwembe would also spend nights out without even apologizing.
‘’He told her sister that I bewitched him because he doesn’t perform well in bed when with girlfriends but only performs well with me.
We tried to resolve the matter at his mother’s place and when I phoned the woman who was communicating with him, she said Chimfwembe had asked her parents for marriage,’’ said Mwanza.
Asked by Chimfwembe what he told her about his phone, Mwanza said she was advised against secretly using his phone.
Asked by the Court why he he refused Mwanza to touch his phone, Chimfwembe said he only told her to use the phone when they were together.
In submission, Chimfwembe said he wanted to divorce Mwanza because she doesn’t respect him and that he may end up being involved in a gender based violence case.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Nyendwa said there was no love in the marriage because Chimfwembe left the matrimonial home.
She granted the couple divorce ordering Chimfwembe to compensate Mwanza K3,500 by monthly instalments of K250 and to be paying child maintenance fee of K250 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
