THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Shibuyunji will soon fill up vacancies that have arisen in the Mwembeshi constituency executive committee, PF Shibuyunji district secretary Joseph Kasonde has said.
Mr Kasonde said the election would be held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 and that only genuine PF members were free to contest.
He said in an interview yesterday that since PF believed in democracy, it did not want to hand pick new office bearers but subject all aspiring candidates to the democratic process of electing leaders.
“We do not just get anyone anyhow. Otherwise we can get renegade members who would be in the party to cause confusion. So, it will be members who are registered at section level and are known by their leaders,” he said.
Mr Kasonde said PF district officials would supervise the constituency elections to ensure that they were held in a conducive environment and proper leaders were put in place.
He said the party in the district has been conducting election at lower organs such as wards and that the time for constituency elections had come to usher in democratically elected leaders.
He said after the constituency election, the party would organise district executive committee elections which would be supervised by the provincial leadership.
Mr Kasonde said the party leadership wanted to re-organise the party and mobilise members in readiness for the general election next year.
“This time we are trying to come up with proper leadership, democratically elected leadership…we are able to call for electoral college within PF,” Mr Kasonde said.
He said PF did not do well in last presidential election in the district because in the past some party officials were playing double standards and were working with the opposition political parties.
Mr Kasonde said some of PF members who sympathized with former party secretary general Wynter Kabimba when he was fired have since left the party to join his Rainbow Party.
