ZAMBIA is an ideal country for foreign investment because of the huge market opportunity it offers, says Zambeef joint chief executive officer Francis Grogan.
Mr Grogan said Zambia’s abundant natural resources combined with Japanese wealth and technology could help the country feed more than 400 million inhabitants in the region.
Mr Grogan was speaking during a visit to the company in Chisamba on Wednesday by Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Kiyoshi Koinuma who led a business delegation.
“Japan has vast wealth and technology, in Zambia have vast natural resources, specifically in the food business; we have huge opportunities to process food, add value to food and distribute,” he said
He said the Japanese with their wealth and technology could reap great rewards if they invested in agribusiness in Zambia, particularly from water harvesting, irrigation and fish farming.
The Japanese ambassador said he believed Zambeef was capable of feeding the region and admired the company’s mission statement, “Zambeef feeding the nation”.
He said having visited Zambeef before, he had always been impressed by how well organised its operations were and its good business model.
“I am impressed by Zambeef’s quality control and the care it takes of its animals, and I can see why Zambeef is very successful,” he said.
The delegation led by Ambassador Koinuma toured Zambeef’s meat processing plant and feedlot where they were shown how the company sources its meat and processes it before distributing it around the country.
