UPND president Hakainde Hichilema is inciting chaos by claiming that the Zambia State Intelligence Service reports to him before President Edgar Lungu sees their daily briefs, MMD spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda says
Commenting on Mr. Hichilema’s statement that he controls the Office of the President, Mr. Nakacinda described as carelessness Mr. Hichilema’s remarks as they were capable of causing anarchy in the county. He said Mr Hivhilema’s remarks were irresponsible and had the potential of causing instability and insecurity in the nation.
“Mr Hichilema was inciting anarchy by splitting the loyalties of the intelligence services and other security wings that are supposed to aid and be loyal to the sitting President,” Mr. Nakacinda.
Mr. Nakacinda noted with sadness that the remarks by Mr. Hichilema were not befitting of one vying to be the republican President.
He said if indeed Mr. Hichilema was the one controlling the intelligence system and received the daily national intelligence briefs before President Lungu, he should keep that information to himself rather than alarm the nation.
“Mr. Hichilema should know that the security wings of the nation are supposed to be answerable to the Head of State and no other person and the claim that some security officers are not loyal to the President but to him is extremely dangerous as it suggests that Mr. Lungu is not in full control of the security apparatus of the nation,” said Mr. Nakacinda.
On Friday during the Vice-President question to answer session, Vice President Inonge Wina described the statement as total politicking by Mr Hichilema.
“I believe that is political gimmick to show that Government is not working because I do not believe that that information get to the leader of the UPND and if it does, then there are some legal issues involved but for all I know this is merely political propaganda,” said Vice-President Wina in parliament on Friday.
This was after MMD Muchinga Member of Parliament Howard Kunda asked the Vice-President to state Government position on Mr. Hichilema’s remarks that he controlled the OP.
“We heard in the media that UPND president Hakainde Hichilema gets intelligent reports before President Lungu do what would you be your comment on the state of the intelligence system in the country?” asked Mr. Kunda.
