POWER Dynamos yesterday thumped Zanaco 1-0 at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe to qualify to the semi-finals of the 2015 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield.
Jimmy Ndhlovu gave Power the lead in the 10th minutes after connecting with Derrick Mwansa’s cross from the right flank. In the first half, Power enjoyed the larger share of possession as Ndhlovu, Larry Bwalya and Alex Ngonga came close to scoring a second goal in the last five minutes.
And immediately after second half, Ngonga almost increased Power’s tally but his shot went wide.
Zanaco’s efforts of improving the striking force proved futile, after coach Aggrey Chiyengi introduced Rodrick Kabwe for Henry Banda in the 60th minute.
Chiyengi introduced newly signed Uribe Archibong for Portipher Zulu in the 69 minute of second half but his move failed to change the score sheet. The game which was characterized with yellow cards later saw Zanaco’s Lee Ngonga awarded a red card for a second bookable offence.
Meanwhile the match between Zesco United and Nkana in the same competition was stopped in the second half following a heavy down pour.
Match officials were forced to postponed the match after Arthur Davis Stadium became soggy and unplayable.
The full match will be played at the same venue starting at 14h00 today. Winners will meet in the final on March 7 just a week before the 2015 FAZ League season is scheduled to kick off.
On the other hand, Zanaco will play the loser between Zesco and Nkana to fight for the third place and fourth position on the final day.
Last month, FAZ conducted draws for the Charity Shield which placed Power Dynamos against Zanaco and Zesco against Nkana.
The Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield is an annual event which is organized by FAZ to mark the start of the new super league season.
