Mumba denies seeking an audience with Lungu

NATIONAL Revolution Party (NRP) president Cosmo Mumba has rubbished claims that President Edgar Lungu has turned down his requests to meet him.

Dr Mumba described the reports as malicious which were aimed at destroying his strong relationship with President Lungu.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation, Dr Mumba said at no time did he request to meet President Lungu, adding that he was giving him time to settle and that at inappropriate time he would seek an audience with the President.

“I have not stepped my foot in State House after the inauguration ceremony of President Lungu. Yes, I have intentions of meeting him but am aware that there is a procedure which must be followed,” he said.

Dr Mumba said meeting President Lungu would not be difficult for him because he had a good relationship with the head of state.

He said this was not the first time people were writing false information about him, adding that even during President Michael Sata’s time some people wrote a story accusing him of wanting to meet the late.

“Nobody steps into State House without an appointment or without following procedure. If I wanted to meet the President, I would have met him but I am giving him enough time to settle down,” he said.

Dr Mumba said he will deal with people behind the false publication of stories about him.
