U-17 AfCON gameTWO Chipolopolo Under-17 defenders Edward Chimfwembe and Prosper Chiluya accumulated two yellow cards on Wednesday and will miss out in the crucial Zambia-Nigeria game tomorrow.
The two lads accumulated yellow cards on Wednesday evening when Zambia silenced the hosts Niger 2-1 at Kountche stadium in Niamey, Niger.
But coach Chris Kaunda says he has absolutely no worries over the absence of the two lads at the on-going 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kaunda said that the team has enough manpower to handle the void that will be left by the two defenders.
“As I speak to you now, the replacements have already been found and I have no sleepless nights over that issue. We have been through such situations before and we always have a way to come out and conquer,” he said.
Chipolopolo will play a must-win match against Nigeria tomorrow at the Olympic ground in Niamey.
Nigeria and Guinea have four points each while Zambia has three and will need an outright win to guarantee passage to the semi-finals.
Kaunda showered praise on his lads for sticking to instructions on Wednesday evening.
Kaunda said he had commanded his boys to get a goal in the first five to 10 minutes of the game.
“I knew that scoring early would unsettle our opponents. That goal by Patson Daka was all we needed to command the game. I must however say the Niger side was good and we needed to be better,” Kaunda said.
Meanwhile, defender Alfred Chirwa said his belief and dream of playing for the national team had finally come to pass.
Chirwa was on Wednesday evening introduced in the second half of the Zambia vs Niger match as a replacement for injured Wayne Museba.
The Kabwe-based Intersport defender said that he has had confidence in himself for a long time and knew that 2015 was the year he would break into international football.
“I was discovered by the Under-17 technical bench, during the 2014 Airtel Rising Stars programme and when I told my friends that I shall make it into the final team, a good number told me it was not possible because the Under-17 final team was already in place,” Chirwa said.
In the other group A match on Wednesday, Nigeria drew 1-1 with Guinea. Nigeria and Guinea both won their first games. Nigeria beat Niger 2-0 while Guinea humbled Zambia by 1-0.
