BANK of Zambia (BoZ) governor Michael Gondwe has been dropped and President Edgar Lungu has in his place appointed Dr Denny Kalyalya as the new Central Bank boss.
And Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani’s contract has been renewed and the Head of State has elevated Luapula Province police commissioner Malcom Mutale Mulenga to the position of deputy Inspector of Police.President Lungu has paid glowing gratitude to Dr Gondwe for serving the Bank of Zambia and the country with distinction both at home and abroad and acknowledged the vast reservoir of knowledge, experience and contacts the former Bank of Zambia chief possessed.
In appointing Dr Kalyalya as the new Bank of Zambia governor, President Lungu noted: “In your previous assignment as deputy governor operations, you served commendably well and your service at the World Bank as alternate and later as executive director for four years was distinct. You boosted Zambia’s image and you were held in high esteem by your colleagues.
“Your experience and knowledge in the sphere of economics should stand you in good stead to help our country at a time when we face enormous challenges largely on account of external forces.”
