Chituwo counsels Nevers Mumba

MMD president Nevers Mumba should take an introspection on the future of the former ruling party ahead of the 2016 general elections and beyond, former party vice president for administration Dr. Brian Chituwo has said.

In an interview yesterday, Dr. Chituwo said the party needed a new crop of leadership which would focus on rebuilding and reconciling all the three factions.

He said the position Dr. Mumba has taken to think that it was only him who had the wisdom to resolve the problems the party was facing was wrong, adding that the future of the former ruling party was bleak under the leadership of Dr. Mumba.

“Let’s take a reflective position on what is happening in the MMD and its leadership. Two years ago, Mafinga Member of Parliament Catherine Namugala informed the party that the leadership style of Dr. Mumba was not up to the standards required for the MMD, people ignored her and thought she was bitter and had something against Dr. Mumba.

“Later, it was the petitions which I received as party vice president then, all the provinces wanted us to go back to the drawing board and address the leadership which included the position of party president and the entire national executive committee (NEC) position but all this failed because people in leadership thought they were a target,” explained Dr. Chituwo who is also Mumbwa member of Parliament.

Dr. Chituwo, a former Minister of Agriculture and a former Minister of Education said the observations and demands by the general membership were not only meant to get rid of detractors and a non performing leadership of the MMD but to give life to the party again.

He said it was a fact that since the MMD lost the general election in 2011, the party has gone through the most difficult period but also because of the poor leadership being offered.

“We foresaw this problem with the leadership of Dr. Mumba combined together with the entire NEC and that is why our party official wanted us to go to the convention and elect a new crop of leaders who will revamp the fortunes of the former ruling party ahead of the 2016 general elections and beyond,” Dr. Chituwo said.

He said it was clear that the party in its current form and confusion had lost foresight to attract members, hence the reason why party members where showing lack of satisfaction.

Dr Chituwo said the way forward was for Dr. Mumba to heed the call for the convention where all affected and interested party officials would be allowed to attend and address the problems the party was facing.

He said the bleak element showing in the MMD was no-longer a matter for Dr. Mumba to sort out after failing to do the right thing but for all party officials.
