THE 2014 MTN/FAZ super league champions Zesco United have been drawn against Nkana FC in the semi-finals of the Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Charity Shield slated for February 21 at Arthur Davies Stadium.
And the runners-up of the 2014 season Power Dynamos will face the “bankers” Zanaco FC in the double header of the same tournament. Speaking during the draws conducted at Football House in Lusaka yesterday, FAZ head of competition Julio Chiluba said the first game would kick off at 13:00hours and the second match at 15:00 hours.
Chiluba said after the outcome of the semi-finals, FAZ would advise where the final match would be played depending on the two teams that would qualify.
“We have decided to allow a 30-minute break after the first match in order to leave room for penalties in case the two teams draw,” he said.
Chiluba said the tournament was the only chance when the football family contributes to charity work. He said the money which will be realised from the tournament will be given to President Edgar Lungu who will decide which charity would get the money.
Chiluba appealed to the four clubs which would participate in the Charity Shield to quickly register their players before the tournament. He said registering the players now would mean that they have already registered them for the 2015 season. Chiluba said he did not understand why clubs had not registered their players yet when the process was opened in December last year.
The Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Charity Shield is an annual tournament which the Football Association of Zambia uses to raise money for charity and participants are drawn from the previous season’s top three teams. The winner of the previous year’s Barclays Cup makes the fourth team for the tournament.
