ALL owners of illegal garages operating on the streets of the central business district of Lusaka should immediately stop repairing vehicles near the roads, says Zambia Police Road Traffic Division Superintendent Yorum Phiri
Mr Phiri warned that repairing vehicles near the roads was dangerous as it distracted traffic.
He explainedthat it was not advisable to repair vehicles on busy roads such as Freedom Way and Lumumba Road.
“I am warning these garage operators to stop it as it is not prudent to repair vehicles on busy roads such as FreedomWay and Lumumba Road for obvious reasons,” said Mr Phiri.
Mr Phiri said that anyone found repairing vehicles on the streets will be charged with obstructing the flow of traffic.
“We are warning owners of these illegal garages that if we find them repairing vehicles on the streets , they will be appropriately charged,” he said.
And Mr Phiri said the traffic division was working on a strategy to stop people from parking near the COMESA Market on Lumumba Road as the practice was causing traffic congestion on the same road.
“We wish to timely warn those concerned that my division is working on a plan to bar motorists from parking near the COMESA Market on Lumumba Road as this is causing traffic congestion and posing a danger to other motorits as well as pedestrians,” he said
