THE MMD in Northern Province has welcomed the expulsion of 18 members of Parliament from the party for openly campaigning for other opposition leaders in the just ended presidential campaigns.
MMD Northern province information and publicity secretary Cephas Bwalya said the expulsion would revitalize the former ruling party.
Mr Bwalya said the behaviour exhibited by the MPs including Felix Mutati of Lunte Constituency, Kapembwa Simbao and Mwalimu Simfukwe of Senga Hill and Mbala respectively was treacherous and should not be tolerated in the New Hope MMD.
“MMD Northern Province welcomes the expulsions of treacherous NEC members and MP’s from the party because they have proved irrelevant, the party is safer without any member of Parliament than having MP’s who fight their own party,” he said.
Mr Bwalya said the treacherous behaviour of the expelled MPs had actually contributed to the poor performance of the party with high voter apathy recorded in the rural areas.
He said it was unacceptable that senior members of the MMD could openly betray their party by calling on the electorates not to vote for the former ruling party candidate president Nevers Mumba.
“Imagine former Lunte MMD MP Mr Mutati and his friends aboard a UPND helicopter addressing huge crowds of super MMD structures in the province with confusing lies that MMD NEC instructed its members to put votes on Hakainde Hichilema or UPND, while on the other side of the region, Senga Hill MP Kapembwa Simbao and Mbala MP Simfukwe remained ‘ mute’, and never campaigned for their own. “We as MMD youths are not worried about their expulsions because the gallant and honest younger generation jubilee leadership shall quickly take over their positions, positions are not for life in MMD,” he said.
