Lungu, Hichilema in tight race


THE ruling Patriotic Front’s candidate Edgar Lungu and his UPND counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema have broken ranks from their colleagues in the Presidential race with the results counted so far showing they are the leading contenders.

In Chipata Central Constituency in Eastern province, Mr Lungu beat other contenders after polling 10,883 votes against Mr Hichilema who got 3,228 votes in Tuesday’s Presidential election.

Returning officer, Mwila Kalobwe, announced the results from all the 38 polling stations.

Chipata central constituency has a total of 49,744 registered voters and 38 polling stations.

In Solwezi Central, Mr Hichilema polled 14, 737 while Mr Lungu polled 4,219.

Returning officer Lisa Banda announced the results at 07.00hrs yesterday.

In Lundazi, Mr Lungu won Lundazi Central constituency after polling 8,779 votes while Mr Hichilema got 2,972 votes.

Returning officer Edwin Phiri announced the results.

In Choma Central, Mr Hichilema polled 21, 921 while Mr Lungu received 2,139.

In Kalulushi, Mr Lungu emerged victorious with 11,371 Votes followed by Mr Hichilema who got 4,040 votes .

Kalulushi District Electoral Officer, Shame Samalela, announced the results at Kalulushi Secondary School.

In Chikankata, Mr Hichilema got 12,457 while Mr Lungu poll  471.

In Ndola Central Constituency, Returning Officer Roy Kuseka announced that Mr Lungu had a total of 12, 610 votes followed by Mr Hichilema who scored 4, 662.

Ndola Central recorded a total of 237 rejected ballot papers.

In Mazabuka Central, Mr Hichilema got 14,801 while Mr Lungu polled 3092.

In Chifubu constituency, Returning Officer Joseph Kabwesha announced that  Mr Lungu had a total of 11, 817 votes while Mr Hichilema had 3422.

In Livingstone, Mr Hichilema got 19, 125 while Mr Lungu 8352.

In Bwana Mkubwa constituency, Returning Officer Nicholas Malama announced that  Mr Lungu amassed 11, 284 votes followed by Mr Hichilema with 3,038 votes.

In Kabushi Constituency, Returning Officer Dismis Muleba announced that  Mr  Lungu got 12, 475 votes followed by Mr Hichilema with 2,762.

In Kabwe Central, Mr. Lungu led the pack with 11,763, while Mr.  Hichilema stood at 4,957.
