ACTING President Guy Scott has implored Patriotic Front (PF) members to remain peaceful throughout the campaign period even when they are provoked by cadres of the opposition.
And Dr Scott has noted that the success and credibility of next week’s presidential election depends on citizens’ participation.
Dr Scott has asked PF members to maintain peace despite being provoked by opposition parties.
He encouraged them to report to the police any acts of violence targeted at them.
Dr Scott said if the police did not act on their report, they should refer such matters to his office and he would make follow-ups with relevant authority.
He was speaking on Tuesday in Lusaka when he went to check on a PF engine boat at Cross Roads Shopping Mall along Leopards Hill road which was set ablaze by unknown people.
“This is getting out of hand… this is destruction of thousands and thousands of kwacha worth of property. The filling station could have caught fire in the process…it could have been a disaster. But thankfully for us, we have some indication of the people involved and police are on the job,” he said.
Dr Scott urged political cadres to avoid violent conduct which could discredit the election results.
“We want to see this thing (violence) end, because once political violence is eliminated, the election is credible.
The result is accepted by everybody…please keep the level of violence down,” he said.
