UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) president must apologise the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and Zambians for violent conduct of his members who impounded the commission’s trucks that were carrying furniture and torches for presidential election next week, Paradius Sakala has said.
Mr Sakala said the level of desperation being exhibited by the UPND over the coming presidential election was frightening because it had the potential to cause anarchy and plunge the country into turmoil.
Mr Sakala who is PF Kapoche losing candidate in the 2011 general elections said it was sad that the UPND had taken violence to the ECZ which he said was defenseless and non-political.
He has threatened that the Patriotic Front (PF) was capable of mobilizing its cadres and take over the guarding and protection of the ECZ if the UPND was going to continue with its unruly behavior.
He claimed that the UPND was panicking because the opposition political party had realized that there was no way it was going to win the presidential election next week because Zambians had decided to continue with the ruling party because of the unprecedented economic infrastructure development currently going on across the country.
Mr Sakala said it was shocking that the church and the civil society organisations had not condemned the action by the UPND that harassed the ECZ officials and the drivers of the trucks carrying chairs and torches to be used in the election next week.
He said the UPND had been demonizing the PF as a violent political party yet the opposition political party had been committing violent acts with impunity, adding that had it been the ruling party involved, it would have been roundly condemned.
“The UPND should come to terms with the reality that they have lost the election and should not vent their anger on the Electoral Commission of Zambia which is defenseless. The UPND has taken its violence to ECZ and it is our expectation that Mr Hichilema should condemn his cadres in the strongest terms. As PF we have the capacity and right to mobilise our youths to go to ECZ and guard the commission because the behaviour has the potential to cause chaos and plunge the country into turmoil. The UPND intelligence network is being misinformed and should get more organized,”MrSakala said.
Mr Sakala accused the UPND as being the ‘‘founders’’ of violence, stating that Zambians had not forgotten that the infamous Mapatizya formula was discovered by the opposition political party.
Mr Sakala said in the unlikely event that the UPND won the presidential election, the leadership would find it difficult to administer the national budget because it was formulated using the PF manifesto.
He stated that should the UPND take over the governance of the country, the leaders would take the whole year attempting to change the governance system of the country and would completely ignore the development agenda which Zambians were interested in.
And former Lusaka district PF vice secretary Benja Siwila said the UPND was preparing grounds to refuse to accept defeat and cause confusion in the country.
Mr Siwila said the UPND had been issuing alarming statements that the presidential election would be rigged and accused the ECZ that some of the ballot papers printed would have their markings fade away, thereby disadvantaging the opposition political party.
