“I AM supporting Edgar Lungu unconditionally and people must not think that I am doing this because I want him to appoint me,” former republican president Rupiah Banda has said.
And Tourism and Arts Minister Jean Kapata has rubbished reports that she had suggested that Mr Banda could be appointed vice-president because of his support and experience should Mr Lungu be elected president next week.
“I am supporting this young man without giving him any conditions. I made this decision to support him because I want the best for Zambia. We are not being fair to him if we accuse him of wanting certain people in certain positions and let us not complicate his life, I am doing this wholeheartedly and there is no reason why I should not,” he said.
Mr Banda said it was not fair to Mr Lungu for people to insinuate that the former president would be appointed vice president once the PF wins the presidential election next week.
He said Zambians should understand that he did not attach any conditions to his offer of support to Mr Lungu but did so because he was the candidate that Zambians were looking for.
He said Mr Lungu should not be stressed with issues that would not help him succeed and warned all people spreading lies to stop.
Mr Banda was commenting on reports in the media suggesting that the ruling party was ready to work with him even as its vice president. Mr Banda was thankful to the people that offered to support Mr Lungu in next week’s election and was confident that the PF candidate would carry the day.
He has since advised Zambians not to misinterpret his unconditional support to the PF candidate, stating that it was a personal decision.
