THE continued distribution of the Sondashi formula, the HIV herbal drug by Forum for Democratic Alternatives (ADA) president Ludwig Sondashi, has the risk of compromising the health of people already on antiretroviral therapy, the Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) has observed.
ZMA president Aaron Mujajati said as far as the association was concerned, the Sondashi formula had not been subjected to the conventional tests of drugs and the formula was therefore nothing but traditional medicine.
Dr Mujajati told the Daily Nation that Dr Sondashi was being considered a traditional healer because his formula was not among the conventional medicines meant to treat HIV\AIDS.
He said the association was worried that Dr Sondashi was using next week’s presidential election campaigns to woo voters by distributing his traditional medicine free, adding that there were people who were desperate for the cure whose health could easily be compromised if they abandoned conventional drugs.
Dr Mujajati said the association was not happy that Dr Sondashi was freely distributing his formula when his claims that the drug could cure HIV\AIDS had not been conventionally proved.
He appealed to TAPAZ president Rodwell Vongo to guide Dr Sondashi and the association on whether the distribution of the formula was in order.
“Dr Sondashi formula as far as we are concerned is traditional medicine and he is distributing his drug as a traditional healer. As the association, we consider his formula traditional medicine because it has not been subjected to the conventional tests. But we are deeply concerned that the continued distribution could easly compromise the health of people already on antiretroviral therapy. We are not happy at all that Dr Sondashi is using the campaigns to distribute his formula,” Dr Mujajati said.
