UPND youths in Monze yesterday beat up musician Red Linso’s colleague because he was found displaying the ruling party’s chitenge material.
The Noah bus registration ALK 4088 which Red Linso and his colleague were using had its rear wind screen damaged.
Red Linso’s colleague had travelled to Monze to up his children.When contacted Southern Province police commissioner Mary Chikwanda said she had not received a report on the matter as she was travelling from Livingstone to Choma.
Her deputy Millnar Muyambango also could not give details saying that the officer commanding in Monze was not picking his mobile.
But Police sources in Monze confirmed that five men were yesterday beaten and later taken to the police by some UPND youths.
According to the information made available to the Daily Nation in Monze, the suspected PF cadres were identified as the people who were on Sunday night seen with PF chitenge materials at a bar.
When the UPND youths spotted them at a restaurant in the central business district of Monze yesterday, they confronted the PF cadres and questioned them about their presence when they were from Lusaka.
In the process, the UPND youths manhandled the five including Red Linso and one of them was battered.
The group later took the five to Monze Central Police where they were handed over to the police.
However, police sources confirmed that four of the suspected PF cadres were in police’s hands including the one who was battered apart from musician Red Linso.
