A BEMBA royalist has advised the people of Northern Province against listening to politicians who were basing their campaigns on recognizing Mr Henry Kanyanta Sosala as Paramount chief Chitimukulu to ascend to power.
Bemba Royal Establishment representative from late Chitimukulu Mutale Chitampankwa, Mulenga Kombe appealed to the people hailing from the Bembaland to be steadfast and vote for a candidate of their choice.
Mr Kombe said politicians should not talk about the recognition of the Chitimukulu as a favour, but an entitlement because he was the one the people had chosen.
He said it was wrong for politicians to use the Chitimukulu’s recognition to ascend to power when he was already a suitable chief under the traditional lineage.
Mr Kombe said there were calls for the gazetting Henry Kanyanta Sosala as the Paramount Chief Chitimukulu yet Government had refused to recognize him as the traditional of the Bemba chiefdom.
He said government should never interfere with the selection and succession in the chiefdoms and that it was important that the political leadership should accept the wishes of the people because they understood their traditions.
“As one of the persons hailing from the Bemba Royal Establishment, I was not impressed in the manner our parent was subjected to.”
The squalor living conditions under which the Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people was subjected had shocked many Zambians,” he said.
He said that the Bembas had been subjected to harsh treatment by Government, adding that it was unfair that the traditional had been forced to vacate from his official residence in Malole after Police barricaded the area and he was living in a grass thatched hut.
