THE opposition MMD in Northern Province has asked the Paramount Chief Mpeze- ni of the Ngoni people to desist from taking part in partisan politics through the endorsement of particular presidential candidates in the forthcoming presidential elections.
MMD Northern province infor- mation publicity sectary Cephas Bwalya said Chief Mpezeni as a traditional ruler should not have endorsed PF candidate Edgar Lungu because the stance ren- dered him a political cadre than a traditional leader.
“Imagine if the Paramount Chief Mwinelubemba Chiti Mukulu Kanyanta Manga II of the Bemba-speaking people also en- dorses publicly a particular can- didate, where would our country be?” he said.
Mr Bwalya said it was unfortu- nate that some traditional rulers were now affiliating themselves to political parties when they should be non-partisan in their role as leaders.
He appealed to the Mwine Lubemba to speak to the East- ern Province counterparts and complain about Chief Mpezeni’s decision to endorse a particular candidate.
Mr Bwalya said tradition- al leaders in Eastern Province should clarify on the political di- rection they wanted to take in the region.
