Until the law is changed to demand a detailed certificate from a doctor on the health of a presidential candidate, no one is supposed to ask whether I went for treatment or not, Patriotic Front president Edgar Lungu has said.
Mr Lungu said this yesterday when he arrived at Mbala airport to continue with the party’s campaign trail.
He said he was in good health and that he travelled out of the country for personal business and that the reports that he had suffered ill health were malicious and the people spreading such stories did not mean well because he was not sick.
“I was not sick, I went out of the country yes but what I went to do is my business, I am surprised that you are so interested in my health and what I do. Others have been missing from the campaign trail and you have not bothered to ask about it, what about me? Don’t I have private life?” Mr Lungu asked.
He said it was good to have friends who wanted to come and openly support him during the campaign and that some people were saying they could do it quietly.
“That’s politics and for this reason let me say, until the law is changed to know who is funding what political party, nobody has the right to question where I went. Until the law is changed to demand a detailed certificate from a doctor no one is supposed to ask whether I went for treatment or not, suffice to say am in good health and I went to meet friends of the party and am back,” he said.
Mr Lungu was expected in Mbala for campaigns on Monday but only managed to get there yesterday.
