FIFTEEN people have been arrested by police from Lusaka Intercity bus terminus for alleged violence against a traveller who was in UPND party regalia.
Police spokesperson Munganga Chanda confirmed this in a statement yesterday.
She said the 15 suspects were picked up in connection with the beating up of a man dressed in a UPND T-sh…irt and the smashing of two vehicles.
“Police in Lusaka have apprehended 15 people in connection with the beating up of a man dressed in UPND party regalia and smashing of two vehicles by criminal elements at the Intercity bus terminus.
“The 15 are currently being screened and all those who will be confirmed to have been involved will be arrested and taken to court,” she said.
Earlier, police had deployed some officers at the terminus to restore law and order following the incident which occurred on Wednesday.
Police are still investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, four people were arrested on 24 and 27 November 2014 following the attacks on a Mahogany bus registration number AJC 9324 that was coming from Livingstone with Patriotic Front delegates for the November 29/30 conference in Kabwe.
The bus carrying 48 delegates was on November 24 intercepted at the flyover bridge near Kamwala by a Rosa minibus registration number ALP 7559.
“The passengers on the Rosa who were armed with assorted offensive weapons disembarked and began smashing the Marcopolo bus windows, leaving six passengers injured,” Ms Chanda said.
She explained that the four were charged with malicious damage to property and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and would appear in court today.
